FAQ

Where/when can I pick up my bib and t-shirt?

Bibs may be picked up the morning of the race in the check-in area, and t-shirts will be at the Gear Tent. There will not be a packet pick-up scheduled prior to that morning. Also, we will not be able to mail t-shirts to people who ordered them but do not attend the event, unless they contact us directly requesting such within a week or so of the race (contact information below). Shipping will be $5 per shirt.

Is there a limit to the number of runners allowed in the race.

The course has a capacity of over 1000 runners. We haven't reached that benchmark yet, so at this point, we don't foresee having to cap registrations this year.

I registered for the race, but can no longer participate. Can I get a refund?

We'll miss you! Unfortunately, there are no refunds available. All registrations are final.

Can I transfer my registration to a friend or to future race?

You are able to transfer your registration to a friend through the active.com website through March 30th. A small processing fee will be charged by active. Unfortunately we are unable to transfer registration to a future year.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes! You can bring your dog to the race area as long as you keep it leashed at all times and clean up after it. Please note, if your dog barks incessantly, is aggressive, or doesn’t like crowds, please leave it at home. You will be personally liable for any bites or other injuries caused by your dog.

Are strollers allowed?

Certainly. Strollers are allowed on the course. The last couple years, we've even had someone medal while pushing a stroller - talk about mad running skills!

My friend wants to help out. Are there volunteer opportunities available?

Absolutely! We couldn't put on the PH5k without our amazing volunteers! Of course we need volunteers race day, but also can use help in the weeks leading up to the race, and the week just following. Contact Julia Feitner to discuss opportunities. Of course, we would be happy to fill out any documentation to get volunteer hours for school / work credit.

Besides coming, how else can my family / friends help?

We're always happy to accept monetary donations and business sponsorships, which will be used to create PH research grants! But, there are a number of other ways to help as well! We also can use lots of Chinese auction baskets. Feel free to just bring them with you that day; or if you prefer, get them to Julia ahead of time and she'll take it from there. We also could use goodies for our bake sale. Just label your goodies and put them in individual baggies, or saran-wrapped on a paper plate, so people can easily make their selections. (Note: any un-sold goodies will be donated to local food banks.)

I can't walk/run. Can I still come watch?

Most definitely! We would be thrilled for you and your loved ones to be part of the day in whatever way possible. Registration is only required for those participating in the 5k / 1 mile, and the kids 1/2 mile races. The runners might even benefit from extra cheerleaders on the sidelines and at the finish line!

I want to run the 5k race or walk the 1 mile, but I can't swing it financially.

All PH patients can register for FREE! Race day is about the community supporting you, not about you forking over money just to come. For non-patients who want to come, but can't swing the registration fee - don't worry, we've all been there! Contact Julia Feitner, and she will discretely take care of it. Your desire to support the cause and the patients matters more than a registration fee.

May I run with my child in the kids 1/2 mile?

Yes, but it isn't required. The turn around for the kids 1/2 mile is at the very beginning of the first overpass along the North Shore Riverfront Trail. While we will have spotters positioned along the river during the kids race, you may wish to run with your child as well. Feel free to cheer on your youngster as you run together. But since it is a kid's race, please don't set your kiddo's pace, or obstruct another child who's also competing.

What is included in the race registration?

In our ongoing effort to keep registration costs as low as possible for our runners, and profits as high as possible to donate toward PH research, we don't include a participant t-shirt in the base pricing. However, you may purchase an adult or child t-shirt as part of the online registration process up until Thursday, March 16th. A limited number will be available to purchase on race day in the Gear Tent.

May we create our own t-shirt in support of a PHriend?

Absolutely! This would be an awesome way to support your friend or family member who is battling PH - by having their community rally around them and wearing matching shirts.

Can I wear a costume?

Heck yes! We love costumes. FYI - PH uses periwinkle (or, any purple is fine) as its color, and zebra print. Why the zebra? Doctors are taught to associate common symptoms with common ailments with this saying, "When you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras." Pulmonary hypertension is a medical zebra. Just as a zebra sounds like a horse, PH often looks like something more common. Sometimes common symptoms indicate asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, obesity or other common diseases. But sometimes it's PH. This campaign urges doctors and patients to consider PH when they see these symptoms.

Where do the race proceeds go?

Once again this year, all race proceeds will be donated to Team PHenomenal Hope's PHenomenal Impact Fund and will be used to create pulmonary hypertension research grants.
